Making A Difference
Here are just some of the ways we’ve used your donation to bring our services to life in your community…..
Over 30,000 Books Read this Summer!
Children and parents laughed and giggled their way through this year's Summer Reading
program. Our theme this year was Laugh Out Loud @ your library and almost 4,400 children
had lots of silly fun. To celebrate the reading success of everyone who completed the
program, a special party hosted by Madame Buskerfly, a Canadian family and children's
entertainer, performed juggling, stilt walking, magic and much more!
Teens Play Wii for Fwii
Teens enjoyed playing GuitarHero, Wii Sports, MarioKart and Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure. Elise Cole, teen services librarian, is excited about this program. "Offering Wii gaming at the library this summer supports the Library's and Town's objectives to create more welcoming community spaces for teens to gather and meet with friends. It's also a great opportunity for teens to come inside and check out all of the other wonderful free resources we have available for them."
Budding Authors
For the first time ever, Oakville teens finetuned their creative writing skills during a
special Teen Writing Workshop hosted by award-winning author Marsha Skrypuch. Due to the
popularity of this workshop, another session has been planned for Saturday, October 25th
with author Stewart Ross.
Coming Soon.....
The Halton Multicultural Council's North Oakville office will be the newest home for a much needed Book Nook! With a total of 8 Book Nooks in the community, the library is reaching out to approximately 3,000 children and their families who are not able to visit the library in person.
Oakville Images
Caitlin, our Image Assistant, has been very busy helping Oakville residents to preserve memories and making them accessible for anyone, anywhere via the internet. Over 400 images have been scanned this summer alone. Check out this picture and others on the local history page.
These projects and programs were made possible through the generous donations of people like you!
