Kobo Vox: Google Play Software Upgrade and OverDrive Media Console App
A software upgrade is now available so that Google Play and its 500,000+ Android apps may be accessible on the Kobo Vox. This includes the ability to easily install the free OverDrive Media Console app necessary to borrow library eBooks and audiobooks from Oakville Public Library’s Libraries on the Go service.
The Kobo website includes instructions on Updating Your Kobo Vox Software. For some people, Kobo notes that it may be necessary to install and run a special app to prepare their Kobo Vox for the update: Preparing your Kobo Vox for the Software Update. Once the update is complete, you may wish to refer to How do I use Google Play on my Kobo Vox?
Using Google Play, search for the OverDrive Media Console app.
- Download, install and open the OverDrive Media Console app.
- ‘Authorize’ the device with a free Adobe id/password available from www.adobe.com. Go to the app’s settings (Menu>App Settings>eBook Options) and enter your Adobe ID and password.
- Use the app’s ‘Get Books’ feature to search for Oakville and subsequently Libraries on the Go.
- Search, checkout, download and read eBooks or listen to audiobooks using the app. Note: eBooks selected must be in EPUB format and audiobooks must be in MP3 format. Only those titles that are compatible with your particular device are shown on the Libraries on the Go website.
If you do not upgrade your software, please refer to the previous instructions about the Kobo Vox and and eBooks and Audiobooks from Libraries on the Go / OverDrive.
