Newcomer Conversation Circle

Join us in the library every Wednesday. Improve your English conversation skills in a relaxed atmosphere and build your speaking confidence. Come out and share your experiences, learn about your community and discover what the library has to offer! Certificates awarded for participation.

Settlement Services for Newcomers to Canada

A settlement worker is available in the library every Monday to meet with newcomers to help them settle and integrate into their new community.  Information is provided on education, healthcare, housing, jobs, translation services, citizenship application forms and more.

Citizenship Information Session

This information session will help you learn about the new regulations and forms for Canadian citizenship. Find out about the documents you will need and how to check the status of your application online. Get valuable tips on how to prepare for the citizenship test. All questions on the citizenship process welcome. Workshops are held once a month.

Sponsoring Parents and Grandparents

Learn about the process for sponsoring parents and grandparents to come to Canada. Participants will learn about new policies, requirements, documents and how to fill out application forms. Question and answer period will take place.

Communication in the Workplace: Part I

Effective communication skills are key to success in the workplace. Join us for workshops presented by Sheridan’s Workforce Development office. Appropriate for newcomers or people returning to the work force. Sample topics include: Would you like to excel at making small talk? Or learn how to effectively answer a common employer’s question: “Tell me about yourself?” Part II will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

Know Your Rights at Work

This session introduces workers to important rights at work. Knowing about workplace rights is often critical in terms of health and safety, and in accessing income security programs. Learn more about employment standards in Ontario, human rights, workplace violence and harassment.
