Description: freedom of assembly 24 june – 2 september 2012 oakville galleries in gairloch gardens & at centennial square curated by marnie fleming and matthew hyland please join oakville galleries to celebrate our summer exhibition opening on sunday from 2:30 pm–3:30 pm at oakville galleries at centennial square, followed by a reception at oakville galleries in gairloch gardens from 3:30 pm–5:00 pm. freedom of assembly brings together the work of eighteen canadian artists whose practices cohere under a broad rubric of 'collage.' while all manner of collage has been a fixture of art production since the early twentieth-century avant-garde, recent years have seen its notable resurgence—and expansion into new territories. from traditional cut-and-paste techniques to hybridized sculptural strategies to the use of digital technologies, the works on view experiment with form, content and material to open, often provocative ends. exhibiting artists include: roy arden, barbara astman, valérie blass, paul butler, sarah cale, aleesa cohene, jason de haan, georgia dickie, marcel dzama, geoffrey farmer, kristan horton, tiziana la melia, luanne martineau, jennifer murphy, jacob whibley, alison yip, balint zsako, and elizabeth zvonar.
