Come join us for a fun afternoon with Dad (or Mom!) We’ll paint a birdhouse and decorate it with touches from the outdoors.  Take your creation home and watch nature unfold in front of you!

TD Canadian Children’s Week: Writing Contest!

Tell us how you celebrate the performing arts for TD Canadian Children’s Book Week 2013! This year’s theme is “All the Bookshelf’s a Stage: Celebrating the Performing Arts”. You could win a prize pack full of books and games!

How to enter:
1. Write a paragraph or a poem describing what inspires you about singing, dancing, acting or playing a musical instrument. Your entry must also include the title of a book from the OPL catalogue on some aspect of the arts.
2. Submit your entry either online by completing this entry form or by completing a paper copy in-branch.

Deadlines:
- Paper submissions must be received by Saturday, May 11 at 5:00pm. They can be handed in at the Information Desk of any Oakville Public Library branch.
Online entry forms will be accepted until Saturday, May 11 at 11:59pm.

Who’s eligible?
1. Any child between the ages of 7-12 with an Oakville Public Library card
2. Immediate family members of OPL staff, board members and volunteers are not
eligible to enter, as per the Oakville Public Library’s Contest and Lotteries policy.
Prizes & Judging:
There will be a prize awarded in two age groups 7-9 years and 10-12 years. Submissions will be displayed in the branches and winners will be selected by OPL staff. Winners will be notified by phone no later than Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Blooms for Mom

A Mother’s love blooms everywhere!  Let’s decorate a clay pot and plant a flower just for Mom.  We’ll also make a card that she’ll have as a special keepsake!

Building with Lego

Fans of Lego building-come and join us for this challenging weekly program!  We’ll invent new Lwego and Technics creations.  You’ll build things like: The Rubber Band Race car, the Balloon Powered Rocker and The Coat Hanger Daredevil.  Try your hand a virtual Lego building using a laptop and your imagination!

(No class on Monday, May 20th for Victoria Day).

Kids Book Club

Join us for a monthly book club on Thursdays.  Our featured choice is sure to be exciting–if you love to read, this program is for you.  Pick up the first book at White Oaks one week prior to the start of the program.  Participants may keep the book until they receive the next title.

Write in a Box!

Each week open a new box and experience the world of hieroglyphics, secret codes and other amazing forms of writing.   Challenge your creativity to the max and expect serious fun! Snack provided.

Lego Robotics

LeapPads now available for circulation!

LeapPads are an iPad-type device for children. They resemble talking books and are an incredibly fun learning tool!

As of August 29th, LeapPads will be available for circulation at all branches.

LeapPad signout details:
- Maximum 1 week loan period
- No renewals
- Signout on Adult cards only
- 1 per card
