Guidelines For Parents
Summer reading programs encourage children to read for fun and offer an opportunity to explore individual interests. Studies have shown that library reading programs help to maintain the reading level and learning skills that a child has achieved during the preceding school year.
You have the opportunity to keep your child reading over the summer months by bringing them to your local library branch and signing them up for the TD Summer Reading Program. It's interactive, exciting and FREE!
Here's How It Works
- Your child(ren) can sign up for the Summer Reading Program online using their library cards or your library card. A Summer Reading List will be saved for each child under the My Lists option of the card used for registration. Registration is also available at each library branch.
- What counts as reading? Children can read independently, read to someone else or have someone read to them. Books, magazines, comics, newspapers and recorded books are acceptable. When finished reading, your child can simply log on and add the item to his/her list.
- Once your child(ren) have read and added the number of items you set for your goal on each visit, they can now report to your local Oakville Public Library Branch to receive prize package 1. We encourage you and your child(ren) to set their own individual goals. When they've read a minimum of three more items and have added them to the list, they can return one more time for the final prize package 2.
Children are encouraged to add items to their Summer Reading list before returning to report on their reading. Children must report for prize package 2 by August 16th.
