Oakville Public Library has many services for newcomers to Canada and for multicultural groups. It's FREE to join the library. Here's how you get a library card. You will need a card to use some of the services below.
Programs & Services
Welcome To Canada Centres
Located at all libraries in Oakville, these centres have pamphlets and brochures containing information that is useful for newcomers, such as settling in to school to how to fit a child's car seat. This information is available in many languages.
Library Materials In Your Language
Books, music and movies can be borrowed from the library with a library card. Languages include: Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Spanish, Urdu. More language materials.
Settlement Worker Services
Are you new to Canada? The Oakville Public Library in partnership with Halton Multicultural Council is now offering settlement worker services where newcomers can seek help and information.
A HMC settlement worker will be available for clients on Thursdays (beginning July 9th 2009) at Woodside library from 9:30am to 4:30pm in the Small Meeting Room.
This will be a walk-in service but appointments can also be made by calling HMC at 905.842.2486 ext. 450.
Citizenship Orientations @ Your Library!
Oakville Public Library is pleased to provide Citizenship orientations from September 2009. Orientations are delivered by Halton Multicultural Council in the Program Room at Glen Abbey Branch. These orientations will prepare participants for Canadian citizenship.
Orientations will take place on the first Wednesday of every month from 1:00pm - 4:30 p.m.
First orientation begins on Wednesday, 2 September 2009.

Library Computers
With a library card, customers have FREE use of library computers. Computers in the library have access to: Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point and support many different languages. The computers in the children's section are all filtered for safety reasons although computers in the adult section offer a mix of filtered and unfiltered computers. Customers are asked to use the Internet responsibly.
