Special Services
Homebound Delivery Service
We provide home delivery of library materials to those patrons who are confined to their home or residence due to illness or disabilty. Upon registering with the service a profile of reading preferences is created (this may include talking books, for the visually impaired). Library staff use this profile to select suitable materials for delivery. Volunteers pick up and deliver either every two weeks or once a month.
This service is restricted to persons who have a:
- Visual impairment
- Physical handicap
- Perceptual problems
- Learning disability
Special Reading Aids
SmartView is a magnifier which enhances all reading materials (magazines, newspapers, photographs, etc). It is available at our Woodside branch. Donated by the Friends of the Library.
ZoomText is screen magnification software that allows you to view the library catalog and the internet in large print. Each of the Oakville Public Library locations has a ZoomText workstation.
Kurzweil Reading Machine is a computer, scanner, and software which bring the printed word to life for the visually impaired. Printed material is scanned into the computer, the print is magnified on the screen and the text is read aloud. Central, Iroquois Ridge, and Woodside branches have Kurzweil machines.
For more information on these adaptive aids, please contact our Woodside branch.
