October is Family History Month, and we’re celebrating with a Family History Fair! Drop in to visit with historical, genealogical groups and family history product vendors, or attend one of our free workshops* with genealogical speakers on a variety of topics.

This session will be an exploration of some of the other strategies and sources that are available that can help with researching Indigenous family history, and will touch on the obstacles you’ll face. Some of these resources are not “traditional” sources, but can be a rich source for family history information.

Research Directories are a major source for family historians, particularly in North America. To glean all the information they offer, and to understand their limitations, it is useful to know a bit about the origins and history of directories, how and why they were compiled, types of directories available, and where you can find them today.
