Book Clubs

Our Book Clubs are back – virtually! Come connect and chat with fellow book lovers about popular books. Sessions are led by OPL staff.

Once you register, we hold a physical copy of the book for you. You’ll receive a notification with details on how to pick-up your copy.

You’re still welcome to attend even if you have or haven’t read the book club selection – all are welcome!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s new for Book Club?

  • Registration is now free! We want to ensure everyone is able to participate.
  • You can now sign up for individual sessions, instead of committing to multiple sessions at once.
  • Chosen titles won’t be voted on, as in years past. However, there will be an opportunity to provide feedback on title suggestions.

How do I participate “virtually?”

At this time, we are offering Book Club in a virtual setting on a live Zoom call. Zoom is an online video conferencing platform, allowing you to still see and discuss with other book club members. Each session has a unique Zoom link posted in the program session listing.

What about the books?

We have limited physical copies of each title. Please register for the session(s) you would like to participate in, which will prompt us to reserve you a copy of the book. We will then send your copy to your preferred branch for you to pick-up. Please ensure you register with your OPL library card.

How long can I borrow the book for?

For books used in Book Club, the loan period has been extended and will be available to borrow for five (5) weeks, and can be returned to any branch. Reserved book club titles are also labelled with a bright pink sticker so you can distinguish them  from your other borrowed items.

What about Historical Fiction Book Club?

We have partnered with Oakville Museum to offer a unique book club experience. We invite you to “bring your own lawn chair” and meet us in Lakeside Park, next to Erchless Estate for a physical distanced, in-person book club session. Erchless Estate is located at 8 Navy Street, Oakville, just down the road from Central Branch, and overlooks beautiful Lake Ontario. This grand estate is an important landmark in Oakville history. Come and enjoy the outdoors, a good book, and great company!
