Virtual Library Programs and Public Services

Here’s a quick guide to all of the library services that we are currently offering. For more information on our virtual programs, please visit our programs page.

Register for a library card

If you live, work or study in Oakville and don’t have an OPL library card, you can register for a library card via email or phone, so you can still access our digital collections from the comfort of your own home.*

Select one option:

  • Send us an email at oplreference@oakville.ca and include “Card Registration” in the subject line; or
  • Call us at 905-815-2039 and leave a voicemail with your card registration request, including your name and phone number.

Please allow 48 hours to process your registration.

*Currently, this library card provides access to OPL’s digital collections. Once the library resumes regular operations, we can provide you with a full-access library card.

Winter Sports Kits

Get some fresh air and enjoy the snow using an OPL Winter Sport Kit. Kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, no holds will be available. Loan periods are 7 days and are not renewable. There are various types of Winter Sports Kits and availability varies by branch, please call your local branch for more information.

Grab & Go for Kids and Adults

OPL has launched a new service to help you discover new authors, reads and movies in a seamless three-step process. OPL staff prepare bags with 5 books or 5 DVDs inside based on the following categories:

For Kids:
Picture Books, Early Readers, First Chapter and Junior Fiction

For Adults:
Mystery & Suspense, Historical Fiction, Biographies, Lighthearted Reads, Wellness and Mixed Bag (Fiction and Non-Fiction)

DVDs:
Award Winning Films, Recently Released Films, Family Films, TV Series and Mixed Documentaries

Book your appointment to pick up your preferred bag, keep it sealed and place your bag on the self-checkout scanner to check out with your library card, then take home to uncover your new reads! Happy reading!
