Enjoy a challenge? Then Oakville Public Library has you covered! We have a variety of reading challenges throughout the year to keep readers engaged.

Our reading challenges are available online through Beanstack. You can use the desktop version or download the app to a mobile device to participate.

How do I join a Reading Challenge?

To get started, create a Beanstack account. Parents/guardians will have to create an account for their children. Access the Beanstack website or login through the Beanstack app (available through the App Store and Google Play).

How do I use Beanstack for reading challenges?

After you create an account in Beanstack, challenges open to your age group will be displayed.

When you join a challenge, you earn badges and can be entered into draws by completing activities and logging the amount of time you have been reading.

Prizes and Eligibility

Some reading challenges, such as the Summer Reading Challenge, have prizes. Oakville residents with an OPL card are eligible to win prizes associated with a reading challenges. Winners will be required to provide proof of residence and/or their OPL library card barcode.

OPL staff, board members, and volunteers are not eligible to win prizes. For more information please see OPL’s Contests and Lotteries Policy.

Read Woke Canada

Read Woke Canada is a call to discovery. This reading challenge highlights Canadian authors, with a focus on including voices from the Black, People of Colour (POC), LGBTQ2S+ and other culturally-diverse communities whose voices are often not shared in public discourse. Discover diverse books, log activities, and READ WOKE.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (1KBBK)

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (1BBK) is a free literacy program for newborns, babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Along with discovering new stories and authors, this challenge is also a great way to introduce early literacy to your little one which will make learning easier when they start Kindergarten. Join OPL’s online challenge to log reading and earn badges all along the way.
