TD Summer Reading Club: Guidelines for Parents

Last year, over 3500 students in Oakville signed up for the TD Summer Reading Club. They are encouraged to read for fun, allowing them to explore their individual interests. Studies have shown that library reading programs and clubs help students maintain the reading level and learning skills they achieved during the preceding school year.

You and your child(ren) can read together throughout the summer. Starting Saturday, June 29th, head into any Oakville Public Library Branch to sign up to be part of this year’s TD Summer Reading Club. As children receive their cool passes and prizes, you will be able to celebrate their successes as they continue to read throughout the summer.

Through our partnership with CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access), as well as our digital and audio collection, we have a selection of books that are accessible to young customers with a variety of abilities and needs.

It’s simple! Here’s how it works

• Your child(ren) can sign up for the TD Summer Reading Club online using their library card(s) or your library card. Registration begins on Saturday, June 29th.
• Your child(ren) will set reading goals when they register and during their visits to any branch of Oakville Public Library. This goal is to read a minimum of three or more items between visits.
• Children can read independently, read to someone else, or have someone read to them. Books, magazines, comics, newspapers and audio books are all accepted.
• After reaching their goal(s) they can now report to any Oakville Public Library Branch to receive their prize package(s). There are two prize packages and a final prize that they can receive throughout the summer. The first day to receive prizes for reporting goals is Saturday, July 6th. The last day to report reading and pick up prizes is Saturday, August 24th at 5 p.m.
