Q: What do I need in order to use Lynda.com?

A: You need an active Oakville Public Library (OPL) card and PIN. Your PIN is typically the last four digits of your telephone number.

Q: How do I create my account?

A: Visit www.opl.ca and click on Lynda.com, or go directly through this link. If accessing from outside the library, enter your library card and PIN and click on Create a Profile. Fill in the required boxes, and click on Log In.

Q: I’m going to Lynda.com but it won’t let me in. How do I find it?

A: You must enter Lynda.com using the library’s link. You may choose to favourite the link so that you don’t have to go through the library website each time.

Q: I’m having trouble accessing Lynda.com. What are the technology requirements?

A: You may access Lynda.com using a computer or the browser of a mobile device. Here are the specifications for each:

Computer:

  • Safari 8 or later, Google Chrome 41 or later, Firefox 35 or later, Internet Explorer 11 or later
  • Mac OS 10.10 or later, Windows 8.1 or later
  • Broadband connection of 3 mbps or greater
  • The data used to stream Lynda.com videos from the Internet at home or from your mobile device will count towards your Internet service provider’s monthly bandwidth cap.

Mobile:

  • m.lynda.com (viewing lynda.com on mobile browsers)
  • Default Android browser or Mobile Safari
  • Android 2.3+ or iOS 7.0+

Q: What kind of content does Lynda.com have?

A: Lynda has 4600+ courses in a variety of topics with about 30 videos added each week. Introductory course topics include, but are not limited to: Windows 10, Office 2013 and 2016, Android, iOS, Facebook, and WordPress. For more advanced users, it also includes courses on computer programming, scripting languages, 3D printing, audio/visual editing, photography, and business (to name a few).

Q: Can I take the same course over and over again?

A: Absolutely! Users can take the same courses repeatedly, with no penalties or restrictions.

Q: Why can’t I get into Lynda.com right now?

Our license allows up to 75 customers to the resource at any given time. If you are not being permitted access, please try again soon, as it is likely just a busy time of day for eLearning.

Q: Is there an app?

A: Lynda.com does have an app, but it is not available for public library users. Please use the link on our website to access Lynda.com.
