What is OPL to Go?

OPL to Go is Oakville Public Library’s free app – the best way to access Oakville Public Library from your Apple or Android device. You can log in, view your account, place and edit holds, locate materials and branches, and even use it as your library card!

How is the OPL to Go app different from the Oakville Public Library website?

The OPL to Go app is optimized for mobile device use, allowing for easier and smoother catalogue searching with readable font size. When you are signed in, the OPL to Go app can also be used as your library card.

How and where can I download the OPL to Go app?

OPL to Go is available to customers using Apple and Android mobile devices. While OPL to Go is optimized for smartphone use, it can also be downloaded and viewed on Apple and Android tablets. For this reason, when searching for OPL to Go in the Apple or Google Play Store, keep in mind that it will be categorized as a smartphone app and not a tablet app.

Can I access my library account through the OPL to Go app?

Yes, absolutely! Simply click on My OPL from the menu and log in using your library barcode and PIN (which is usually the last four digits of your phone number). You can view and edit your holds, renew titles, and view your fines while logged in to OPL to Go.

Can I pay my fines using the OPL to Go app?

Unfortunately you cannot pay your library fines using the OPL to Go app; however, you may view your fines. If you wish to pay your fines online, please visit our online payment page.

How can I access Oakville Public Library’s eBooks and Audiobooks through the OPL to Go app?

You may browse through our catalogue to find eBook and audiobook titles. However, you must download the OverDrive Media Console app in order to access Oakville’s eBooks and audiobooks on your mobile device.

How do I place a hold, add to my shelves, map available copies, or check the availability of a title in the catalogue using OPL to Go?

When you have selected a title and arrive on its page, you should see a blue circular symbol with a “+” sign.  Press this symbol for your options.

How do I use the Scan ISBN feature for searching?

In the Search screen, simply press Scan ISBN and the camera will automatically pop up. Place the ISBN of your book in front of the camera. Depending on the model of your device, the camera will either capture the ISBN automatically or you will have to tap the screen to take the shot. The app will then automatically search the catalogue for matches. The most interesting benefit of this function is being able to scan the ISBN of any book – in a bookstore, or belonging to a friend – in order to automatically find out whether it is held in the Oakville Public Library collection. You can then map the location of the title, or place it on hold for your convenience. *Please note that the ISBN is not the same as the Oakville Public Library barcode.

Can I save my library card number so that I don’t have to keep re-entering it?

Absolutely. From the app, select More, and then Settings. From there, select Login Settings, enter your barcode and PIN, and remember to click the Remember Me button before pressing Done.

Can I set a preferred location for my account on OPL to Go?

You can set a preferred location by selecting More, and then Settings. From there, select Preferred Location for this Device and select your default location. You may change this at any time.

How do I empty the cache on my OPL to Go app?

If, on occasion, you would like to empty the cache on your OPL to Go app, select More, followed by Settings. Choose Cache Settings, and press Clear Cache.

Can I use OPL to Go on my Blackberry?
