Twilight fair

by Nayana Menon

Lights sparkle through the glorious night.
A grand wheel turns, makes the skyline bright.
Voices, laughter, float through the air,
As the moon watches over this twilight fair.
I walk through the bright, glittering dark,
Listening to the laughs and screams,
Then a cry rings out.
Everything stops, the wheel stops turning, the people stop moving.
One cry changes everything,
One cry can cut through anything, whether it is peace or a jubilant ceremony.
One cry can destroy the beauty of a moment.
Then it's gone.
The noises resume, laughter and joyous screams drifting in the black sky once more.
The grand wheel continues turning.
