Programs for Newcomers @ Your Library

Oakville Public Library offers many programs for newcomers to Canada. OPL works with HMC Connections, Centre for Skills Development and Training, and Newcomer Information Centre to bring programs for newcomers to our branches. Topics covered include preparing for the Canadian citizenship test, career building, immigration, ESL, computer classes and more. Click here for newcomer events and links to our complete program listings.

Here's a sampling of our programs:

  • Settlement Services for Newcomers to Canada

  • A settlement worker from HMC Connections is available in the library to meet with newcomers. Information about immigration, employment, citizenship and education is provided to help you settle in your new community.

  • Citizenship Information Session

  • A settlement worker from HMC Connections is available in the library to help with your citizenship application and provide tips for taking the citizenship test.

  • Newcomer Conversation Circle

  • Newcomers to Canada and ESL learners meet in the library to improve their English conversation skills, plan social outings, and join together to become an important part of our diverse community. Come and share stories, learn from each other, make new friends, and develop stronger ties to the community.
